perfectionism contributed to burnout at every job I’ve had since college. I went hard with everything, convinced the only way to win at anything was to be better (read: perfect) than everyone else. it took a permanent physical toll on me. great post!
You could have been writing about me! I'm writing this looking at my still messy bedroom which I'm unable to keep tidy.
I've burnt out professionally three times over my six decades, each time trying to prove I'm good enough to the world but all the time feeling like a failure inwardly. I'm only just discovering that ADHD is behind all this, and learning how to be still, even if only for short bursts during the day.
I'm guilty of all of this. I've had to overcompensate and work harder to try to prove myself. It's as if I hear the you are lazy and you are stupid from my past and that drives me. It also makes me feel guilty for watching TV or taking a day off. I've reached burnout as a business owner working 7 day weeks months on end.
Thanks for this article we strive for perfection and it's an unrealistic goal. Reading articles like your's I'm learning that sometimes just doing is enough. Trying to pace myself it started last year but I'm in full burnout mode. Praying for strength.

Oh yes. Been there. Still 'being' sometimes 😉
